Whew. I am glad the weekend is over. While there are lots of people who seem to have all sorts of newly acquired free time, I already worked from home most days. My weekends were usually tied up doing errands and child-related activities. Now, I have no obligations and, therefore, no excuses not to work on things around the house. Yardwork is not my favorite activity, especially during the pollen season. I already had to wear N95 masks when working outside if I wanted to survive. There have been a couple of items that have been neglected for quite a while. One has been water drainage. The sediment has been eroding part of my yard away for years. With the new foster dog, I needed to address this or risk her jumping the fence. Oh, I forgot to mention: we have a new foster dog. Her name is Allie, short for Elizebeth Allison. She came to us straight from the Upson County Shelter, so that means quarantine. Kinda funny that the dog has to be quarantined while we are all quarantined. However, we have to keep her separate from our own dogs for 2 weeks to make sure she didn't pick up anything from the wild or the shelter. She is 12 weeks old and not house-trained, so we have our work cut out for us. Lily is home all week-Spring Break-and had been asking for us to foster a dog for several weeks so the timing is perfect. She spends all day in the basement with Allie, playing video games with her friends and cleaning up after Allie. Back to the yardwork. I spent the last 2 weekends digging out the runoff, laying new drainage pipes and adding an extension to our retaining wall. Heck, I even built a carpenter bee trap from scratch. Man, you can find videos on the internet to teach you anything, if you look. My grandfather always said "If you want to know something, someone has already written a book about it." The only thing that I have noticed about this new routine is that I seem to be working more hours, not less. The days go by much faster than they used to and they are blurring into one another as the "Wash, Rinse, Repeat" repetitiveness of the workdays settles in. Well, that is enough for one day. Time to settle in and watch another episode of Sherlock on BBC!I am a full-time Dad, part-time Girls Lacrosse coach, and volunteer Disaster Responder.
