100 Dead

It is a morbid milestone: 100 dead in the U.S. alone. I woke up to 164K confirmed infected and over 6,400 deaths. We already went through 100K infected in the world. Over 5,000 dead world-wide. Wait until we get to 1,000,000 infected and 30,000 dead. How about 100 million infected and 2-3 million dead just in the U.S.? Will the movement restrictions work and keep that from happening? No one knows but we all hope so.

Of course, there are more infected than confirmed or reported. Does that really matter to the dead? Yesterday, my oldest stopped by her school to get books and other materials out of her locker. The possibility of her not being able to return for several weeks is real.

Yesterday was St. Patty's day. Oh well. I think about the new reality of today. I also wonder what it is going to be like in a week, a month, 6 months. The smart people I follow seem to be hovering around 6-8 weeks as the real telling point. Assuming the hospitals aren't overwhelmed, or even if they are, what will it be like when we get to a point where the numbers of seriously infected start to decline to manageable levels?

See, the number of infected is not something that worries me as it stands alone, but rather that the percentage of those people that require hospitalization and the percentage of those that succumb to the tolls of the virus. Then, what about the second wave? Studying what is happening in China will give us insight into the potential and veracity of exactly that. Of course, part of that will be dependant on how transparent China's reporting is if and when a second wave of infections occurs from those that return to China.

Wow, I just read some of my previous posts-what a downer! I even tried reading a site about "good news" and just couldn't do it. Maybe I should take a break from trying to keep up with all of it.
